Welcome
Hello, lovelies. It’s Juliette here, and today I’m joined by Josy Frotton, a cosmic weaver, bodyworker, traveller, and host of the Soul Dancers podcast.
In this conversation, we explore what it means to soften, receive, and stop abandoning yourself in the name of caring for everyone else.
Josy Frotton shares what has been unfolding for her after a powerful Moon Dance ceremony, the deeper layers she has been meeting within her body, and the patterns of overgiving, responsibility, and “selfishness” that so many of us inherit.
We speak about mothers and daughters, boundaries, generational conditioning, speaking your truth out loud, and choosing to honour your own path even when someone you love wants something different from you.
This episode is an invitation to soften without disappearing.
To receive without guilt.
And to remember that choosing yourself does not mean you stop loving others.
📝 Episode Summary
In this episode, Josy Frotton and I explore receiving, self-expression, embodiment, family patterns, and the difference between caring for someone and abandoning yourself for them.
Josy Frotton opens up about her relationship with her mother, the conditioning that taught her choosing herself was “selfish,” and her decision to support her mother after surgery without immediately dropping everything to be physically there.
We talk about rewriting inherited beliefs, moving away from overgiving, finding practices that actually work for you, and allowing yourself to speak, dance, move, and connect with your body instead of following one prescribed path.
I also guide Josy Frotton through a beautiful receiving practice, inviting her to soften into her heart, receive, and allow energy to move through and beyond her.
This is a conversation about coming home to yourself while still holding deep love for the people around you.
🔎 Key Takeaways
Choosing Yourself Is Not Selfish You can love and support someone without abandoning your own needs, plans, and truth.
Your Boundaries Can Become Your Standards Instead of constantly defending a boundary, you can begin to recognise what is simply a yes or a no for you.
Overgiving Is Often Inherited Many of us learned that being a “good” woman, daughter, mother, or partner meant putting everyone else first.
Expression Does Not Have To Look One Way Journaling may work one day. Speaking out loud, walking in nature, dancing, or talking to yourself in the mirror may work another. There is no single right practice.
Softening Creates Space To Receive Josy Frotton’s wish is not to push harder, achieve more, or become someone different, but to soften more deeply so she can receive.
You Can Love Someone Without Living Their Pattern Compassion and forgiveness do not require repeating the same cycles of sacrifice and overgiving.
Follow The Flow, Not The Performance Sometimes the next step is simply showing up without an agenda, without needing to be anything for anyone, and allowing yourself to follow what feels truly aligned.

SPEAKER_01
Welcome to another episode of The Scrumptious Woman. Now, with me, I have a very scrumptious little tantalizing lady out in a forest. Josie, I'm so happy that you could join us.
SPEAKER_02
Thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful space.
SPEAKER_01
And I don't even know how to announce you what your title is. I mean, we have connected because of a masterclass that we were in, and there were a lot of deep moments. And what I shared when I was on the hot seat, a lot of things that I said resonated with you. And this is why you are here now.
SPEAKER_02
Introduce yourself, my love. I'm Josie, and I used to call myself like a cosmic weaver or also a physical one of really bringing people, projects, ideas together in this and very different dimensions somehow as well. And so we met in this beautiful space, which we both said yes to go into more hidden parts of our ourselves, or at least for me that was the reason. And I really felt super inspired to interview you. But now I'm your guest first because something happened. And for some reason, the whole past days I've been super activated. I came from the moon dance one month before. And my sixth dance, I don't know if you're familiar with the moon dance.
SPEAKER_01
I am, but why don't you let our listeners know what the moon dance is?
SPEAKER_02
Which is a very powerful prayer for the earth. Women coming together, like medicine women from all around the world. It's a prayer from South America or Mexico. And there were abuelas coming from the Americas, and there were sweat lodges every day twice for purification. During the night, we're dancing all in white, all women praying to each direction each night. In the middle, there is a big, huge mother drum, and we're just standing there and drumming. It's the center of the circle, and it's literally us women coming together and remembering our power, and there is man holding space for the woman, preparing the fire, preparing the sweat lodges, the Timas. Yeah, the sweat lodge. The ward bringing the making the amazing tea, and um it's just such a powerful like prayer each year. And this year for me was very strong, even though it was very soft because there was already so much fire around everywhere, so we were not allowed to actually make fires. Of course.
SPEAKER_01
This is in Europe, right?
SPEAKER_02
Yes, that was in Austria, and so we had like a lot of water coming in, like it was still very strong, but very soft at the same time. And right after coming out of that huge ceremony, our masterclass started, which kind of just kept the process going.
SPEAKER_01
Beautiful. So you've been on a little bit of a roller coaster right of opening yourself, connection with woman. And then also the masterclass where we did the connection to your arrows and to the kink of almost having something. And of course, I'm a dominatrix and bringing in that energy of where we can switch from being submissive and receiving everything that the world has to offer us, and where we then can switch to actually taking the more masculine pull of dombing the world into what we actually desire. Tell me a little bit, because I often get told I'm a portal, and I have been with people that have been shown portals, that they can actually leave this physical body or not. It's not something that's strange to me. When you started conversing with me in Telegram, you got saying, Oh my god, I feel so safe with you, and I'm opening up in a way that I most of the time don't. I mean, I get this a lot. But what happened for you there?
SPEAKER_02
That was really interesting. And I have that rarely, but sometimes people come and I just receive downloads, and I just feel like I need to express as well. And this is kind of what happened. The last days I literally feel like I was in a way caving up, and it was also raining a lot, and I was in the forest, and then also obviously there was coming a lot of things through. But what happened is that I realized in which ways I am still hiding who I truly am, and a lot of childhood and teenage memories came up, and I was literally connecting to my body, and I've often feel like I'm doing a lot of body work, and that's also one of my professions, but I feel like I'm always stopping almost when I'm getting there, in many ways, with myself, to really like feel there's some knots that keep opening over also the years and the time, but especially in the last days, I really had such a huge depth that I got within my own body and that I allowed to go to because there's just so often there's not so much time and space as I also tend to take care of others a lot. So there's not so much space to go that deep within myself as I always feel I gotta be there for others rather than going all the way in for myself. That seems to be a wound a lot of us carry. Yeah, and somehow I feel it's changing now because I allowed myself to go there. Still, I wanted to share with you somehow, because somehow it helps me to just express what is happening to understand. At the moment, I don't feel like journaling that much. I really feel like taking it in and speaking it out. But I'm learning that I don't need to have another to speak that out to you. I can, but uh it's not about again sharing, it's to internalize it myself, no.
SPEAKER_01
It's the beauty, right? Because I started working with kids on the spectrum, and that was really how I got into the whole psychology and embodiment and everything, because two of my children are very highly dyslexic and on the spectrums. When you're working with children on the spectrum that cannot quite get in touch with their feelings, with their emotions, you really learn how to read the room, but you also learn how to explain it in a way to them that they can understand. And it's something as simple as like sticking out your hand, this is a good distance to be for me this far, and not like right up your face. Yep. Yeah, yeah. One of the things that I taught them, because not everyone liked writing, and although the the you know, the the brain hemispheres with writing is is beautiful, it's just as or it can be just as powerful to just speak it out. So what I say to most of my clients is like, find what works for you today. And tomorrow it might be different again. So speak it out loud. Go for a walk, and you're obviously in the forest, so you can commune with all the nature around you, get your hands and your feet dirty and just you know, bring that energy back into the earth as you are speaking your truth and your reclamations, your awakenings, right? What is happening in you? We don't need a real mirror to just hold up and and to talk to all the time. And if you look back over centuries, people used to speak out loud and they're like, oh, now they just think they're crazy. And it's like, no, they're actually bringing in this sentence what they are thinking and what's happening. I love it that you are speaking them out. And this is one of my powerful ways.
SPEAKER_02
Yesterday I even then had like very powerful mirror conversations, which was also amazing. Like there it is.
SPEAKER_01
All of it is, right? But but that's just the way we can always find some way of doing it. I don't think there is one way. Like people say, oh yeah, yeah, I found my one way. I'm like, great, that's for you. And someone else will find their one way. Or their 20 ways. Yes. Beautiful. Now, you said you were feeling at a little bit of an edge because your mother is ill and you're wondering what to do.
SPEAKER_02
Are you willing to go there or not? Yeah, we can go there, even though already I feel like I'm quite fastened. I made that inner decision that even though she was in surgery, it's nothing like really bad. It's a hip surgery. So she came out of it safe. And first I was thinking, because she asked me to come to come to her. And I was in this process of shall I go there for her and leave all my plans that I actually had, like just to be there and take care of her in ways she doesn't really need, or she wouldn't even be able to fully be present with me if I came. I've I realized that I'm much more of help if we're like in contact from the far distance and I'm there for her. And just because somebody tells me, I need you, I want you here, to just jump, to not be that sub that I used to be a lot of times in my life, but rather to say, hey, no, my boundary. I'm here for you, but I'm here in my way. And that's all very powerful.
SPEAKER_01
But the beauty is also that you're not shaming her. It's like that was her desire. She needed to voice that, right? I've had both my hips operated the last two years. So I know what it's like when I had my daughters here. One for one and one for the other one, actually. It was really beautiful just to have that extra help. Yeah. Because you are a little bit discombobulated. But I also love that you were willing to hear her desire and also willing to say it's like, and I will love you from here, and then I'll come to you whenever that feels aligned. We're just told that this is selfish. And to actually have standards for ourselves. I don't even call them boundaries, I just call them standard. This is my standard, this is my yes, my no. And at the moment, no, thank you. But we have been so conditioned that as a woman we should help our parents. If we have children, of course, you know, you're there for your kids, and anything you do for yourself is selfish. But then we actually do look, and the coaching industry talks about it giving from an empty cup, and it just doesn't feel good. I remember I was that mother. I had four kids in our three years' time. So they were like very close together. And then I got together with someone who had three kids, so we had seven children. Wow. Overgiving. They were all in different schools. My body then decides, like, hey, we're gonna stop that. We're gonna make you listen by fainting. Once I couldn't do anything, I remember one of my kids saying, Oh my god, this is so selfish. I'm like, I'm sitting on the damn sofa, I can't move without fainting. And you're calling me selfish. And at first that really hurts because you've been coming from such an overgiving place that actually your battery was empty and it was drained, and there was like there was no backup. It didn't feel very good to be given anything.
SPEAKER_02
Yeah, that's actually the same. Like my mother used to tell me when I was a kid when I would do something for myself. She would always tell me I'm selfish. Isn't that funny?
SPEAKER_01
Yeah. And we have to rewire that in ourselves because that does go down a few generations where it's like, oh, that was just something that was taught to me, and I don't actually believe that.
SPEAKER_02
I know that I wish my mother would have been more selfish if she calls it that way. That's why she was overgiving and why she's in the place she is. And I have a lot of love and a lot of empathy and forgiveness. She's been like that, but at the same time, I was like, what the fuck? You should have told me to do what the fuck I want and and like not being always over caring. But it is what we've learned now from our parents, from their parents, and so on. And it's just like a relearning, and that's why it was specifically powerful for me to tell her, okay, if you really, really, really need me right now, tell me. But if not, I'm really happy to go on my own path. And it's not selfish, but it's actually my truth. Beautiful.
SPEAKER_01
Does she understand your path?
SPEAKER_02
Uh, not fully. It's interesting, it's complex because in a way she So I've been traveling the last 12 years, and she like I started right after school, and she never wanted me to be away. She always wished me to be closer and to have a kind of normal life. But then at the same time, some years ago, we were talking, and then she was just like, Do you know what? Actually, you are living the life that I gave up on, and I'm so proud of you. That is also something that came through her lips, but that's very rare and very, like, very, very occasional moments. She brought me from her widest trip to Portugal with a Portuguese fisherman getting pregnant and like kind of like having this wild adventure of her life, and I am like the gift of that, but I never really felt like that because I was always crazy, and I always thought I was too much for her to handle. And at the same time, I know she loves me, but I also I know she kind of like was always worried, and I always felt like she gave her life kind of also up for me. But at the same time, I'm awakening her up into her greater power as well. It's like very multidimensional.
SPEAKER_01
Oh, double whammy there, right? Mother woke up with the Portuguese got you, and you have gone and been that daughter.
SPEAKER_02
Just like my father. She always tells me I'm just like my father. And I didn't grow up with him. Like I didn't know him until I was 19.
SPEAKER_01
Imagine that the double whammy that she has to go through as well. Seeing what came out of her adventure. And then seeing this adventurous daughter and wanting the best for her, and then also recognizing where where that butt clenching is, right? Where that tightening is.
SPEAKER_00
Yep. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01
Isn't that just beautiful? How we all intermingle and what what we are: a mixture of our parents, our generations, their generations before them, how we get influenced by others, you know, then what do we bring in? What is our own body of work? How do we teach that? How are we the teachers for everyone else besides us and behind us? And that we can just reach out and say, hey, I've been there. This is how I've done it. Doesn't need to be your way, but that's how I've moved through it.
SPEAKER_02
If you felt it, if you've been in this place, it's the easiest way to help others, I feel. Yeah. And it's wild if there is a lot of experiences, even though they're quite opposite and quite different from each other. In a way, easier to know who you are if you have like these parents, which are kind of in sync and like where things seem easier, but maybe they are not. I guess it gives your identity more of a easy quick start than being like between all these different dimensions kind of like. Whatever I hear about my father, he was also sailing around the world and just having all these women, having all these children all around the globe. That I actually, when I was 18, I wanted to go travel to meet my brothers and sisters around the globe. And I mean I did, even though they're not blood sisters and brothers, I'm so grateful. I followed that path of my father in a way, even though I still don't know who my blood siblings are, but I'm still open to explore and find them.
SPEAKER_01
Now, if you were given one wish to fulfill for in the next year, what would it be? Hmm. Hmm.
SPEAKER_02
Wow, good question. Just one wish. So there's coming a few things now, but the first thing I felt in my heart was really to soften even more so that I'm able to receive. I want you just to go ahead and close your eyes.
SPEAKER_01
Allow that space where you put your hand to open up even more. Yeah, beautiful. Now imagine this beautiful white ball of light above your head. And with every breath in you're receiving that white crystalline light into your body, into that heart space. Because you want that, merging with that, having it feel every cell of your body plump up with that white crystalline light. All the other cells explode with that juiciness, that she. And then I want you to send it out to your left, to your right, in front of you, behind you, underneath you, and on top. Now in all directions at the same time. And really allow yourself to feel that beautiful dance between the universe, giving you, you receiving, and then sending that beautiful energy out again. Take a few more moments here. And then slowly open your eyes, put your hands on your jaw, and just relax that jaw a tiny bit more, a bit of tension coming up there. Stretch your arms and come back.
SPEAKER_02
Ah, great. Thank you so much. Yeah, that was beautiful. You dream at me. And usually what I do in the mornings, it's like a grounding practice today. I just felt like dancing.
SPEAKER_01
It doesn't have to be either one or the other. Now, Josie, how do people find you? What's your social media? What is your website? If people are like, I want to get to know her a bit more.
SPEAKER_02
Everything actually is kind of in an upgrading modus or shifting modus right now. But my Instagram, I'm still present on, is yoga with Josie. And my website is josiefrotten.com, but also that I'm like in the in the shifting. I also have a podcast called Soul Dancers, where I'm interviewing global peacemakers and have really beautiful conversations on all things consciousness and projects and building the future, building places and going into deep work, shadow work. Like it's quite wild. It's amazing people. I cannot wait to speak to you also on there. And yeah, but mostly you can find me on Instagram.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah. So everything will be in the show notes. And then, Josie, to wrap this up, I'm going to get you to pick a card. These are my communication and intimacy cards. So just tell me when, and I will just pick one for you. Okay. That one. Okay. A life card. Tell me how you want your life to feel different in three years. And what's one step you might take towards it?
SPEAKER_02
Reminds me of your question. The one who made these. Yes. Can I see it? I'll feel into it first. Okay. How does it look like right now? How does it feel like? I mean, I would love it to smell like either ocean or forest. Smell most of the time. I still feel myself traveling, but I feel myself traveling in a very different way. Like slow and really purposeful. Like I really feel how obviously cash is coming in easily and flowing. Like the waters, I feel like this is the water year. And for me personally, it feels like a water year where the rivers are actually like starting to flow even easier. And that may continue over the next two years, three years, and actually forever.
SPEAKER_01
Be supported in always. Thank you. What's one step you can take towards that this week?
SPEAKER_02
Phew. Well, this week we have the eclipse coming up on Friday and Thursday, and there is actually a very powerful gathering where I will go, which is called the Ancient Future. I feel going there without an agenda. I want the tickets. I never want anything. I suddenly want tickets to that festival and to fully like because it's this week and I feel like it's going to be intense. But to go there without needing to be anyone but myself. Like not needing to do anything for anyone that does not feel 100% aligned. Like to just follow the bliss and follow the moment and the flow and the river. And yeah, to show up that essence.
SPEAKER_00
And to dance. Like I'm gonna dance. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01
Thank you. So your receiving has definitely opened up already all of these beautiful ways. Right?
SPEAKER_02
And to really just recognize what so many ways. So many ways. Thank you so much. This receiving portal.
SPEAKER_00
Well, that was a beautiful, beautiful ending. Yes.
SPEAKER_01
I will see you next week, ladies and gentlemen listening to this. Please look up Josie. Her details are in the show notes.
